Jonathan Balcombe to visit Minneapolis to discuss his new book, Second Nature: The Inner Lives of Animals.

Join Jonathan Balcombe in a discussion of his new book, Second Nature: The Inner Lives of Animals.  The event will be held on Wednesday, April 28 at 7:30 at Magers and Quinn Booksellers, located at 3038 Hennepin Avenue South in Minneapolis.  Balcombe will also be at Grumpy’s Bar, 1111 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis, on Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00, to discuss his previous book, Pleasurable Kingdom.

In Second Nature: The Inner Lives of Animals, Balcombe examines scientific studies of animal behavior as well as his personal experiences to reveal perceptions of animals, such as their ability to feel emotion and problem solve.

Pleasurable Kingdom, addresses the previous conception that animals only seek to avoid pain, and shows that animals are able to experience pleasurable emotions as well.

Jonathan Balcombe, PhD, is a former Senior Research Scientist with Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. He has written a number of scientific papers on animal behavior, humane education and animal research.  Balcombe is currently an independent consultant based in Germantown, MD.
