As a voter and a concerned constituent, one of the most effective ways you can help animals is to contact your elected representatives in government. Especially at the state level, your voice can have a tremendous impact.

• Sign up to receive occasional emails from Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection. We will let you know when important animal protection issues in Minnesota need your help. It costs you nothing to sign up and you may unsubscribe at any time.

• Take the time to learn about bills affecting animals currently before the Minnesota Legislature.

• Learn who represents you at the Minnesota Legislature- you have one State Senator and one State Representative. Remember that if you’re wishing to speak up on bills highlighted on this website (state bills), you should only contact your state representative, not your federal legislators. Most legislators prefer to only hear from residents of their own district. So please type in your address here to learn to whom you should make your comments.
• Learn about efforts to criminalize undercover humane investigations in Minnesota and take action here

• Learn about inhumane dog and cat breeding in Minnesota and take action here

• Sign the petition to support the Dog and Cat Breeder Regulation Bill. Do even more- download copies of the petition and get your friends and family to sign as well.

• Learn about pound seizure in Minnesota and take action here

• Learn about coyote and beaver bounties in Minnesota and take action here

• Request a Humane Scorecard. We’ll send you a copy of Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection Humane Scorecard 2009-2010 and you can share it with your legislators. Let them know their votes on animal issues matter to you, and that you’ll be watching their record.

• Let us know you’d like to help. We especially need volunteers who will help campaign for humane candidates.

• Spread the word! Crucial to success is having every Minnesotan who cares about the humane treatment of animals know their voice can be magnified by joining the thousands of Minnesotans who already support our work. Urge your friends and family to sign up to receive Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection eAlerts and to pledge to vote for humane candidates.

• Register to vote. Please communicate your views to your elected representatives and to candidates running for office, and then remember to vote! Without humane politicians in office we cannot hope for positive change for Minnesota’s animals.
