Current Animal Laws in Minnesota

A good resource for most state laws that relate to animals is the Minnesota Animal Control Association’s 2007 manual, Animal Control Officer’s Guide to Minnesota Animal Laws.

Read the online version of MACA’s manual here.

Because the manual was published in 2007, there are laws relating to animals that have subsequently been passed and that are not included in the manual.

In 2008 the animal fighting spectator penalty went from misdemeanor to gross misdemeanor. Here is a link to the new animal fighting statute.

In 2008 there were revisions and new language added to existing law regarding dangerous dogs. Click here to see the new language.
