Gaining ground for Minnesota’s animals- let’s keep going!
2010 was a great year for Minnesota’s animals, and a great year for Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection. As we continue to grow, we will continue to make progress and gain ground for Minnesota’s animals. To help us prepare for 2011, would you please consider making a donation? We occupy a unique niche in animal protection in Minnesota- we are a statewide organization dedicated to promoting humane legislation and legislators. We saw a void in the animal protection work being done in our state, and we are filling that void, but we need your help to keep doing it.
Some highlights from our work in 2010:
–We tracked all bills in the MN Legislature that affected animals
–We let you know when animal bills were going to receive a hearing or a vote, so you could take action and contact your representatives
–We collected and delivered thousands of petitions in support of dog and cat breeder regulation, S.F.7/H.F. 253.
–We reported a synopsis of wins and losses at the close of the legislative session
–We published our state’s first Humane Scorecard, detailing how each MN Legislator voted on bills affecting animals
–We researched and located strong, humane candidates for office
–We provided grassroots volunteers for select races- our volunteers did door knocking, phone calling, distributed flyers, and attended candidate events
–We helped remove from office one of MN’s biggest foes of the animals, Senator Chaudhary
–We were instrumental in helping elect State Senator Barb Goodwin
–We provided a list of Recommended Candidates before Election Day and election analysis after
Outreach and Education:
–We had a booth and did education and advocacy-reaching thousands- at the Pet Expo, the Walk for Animals, the Feline Conference in St. Cloud, the Their Lives Our Voices conference at the University of MN, and the Green Gifts Fair
–We gave humane education presentations at numerous junior and senior high schools in the metro area- reaching hundreds of young people
–We spoke about political advocacy for animals at the Their Lives Our Voices conference at the University of MN
–We hosted an inaugural event- a Fall Party- raising awareness of our work and bringing the humane community together
