Humane Lobby Day 2013

You’re invited to lobby for the animals on March 5!

I care about animals, and I heard about Humane Lobby Day in 2010 but hesitated. I attended my first one in 2011, and returned for Humane Lobby Day 2012 at the Minnesota State Capitol. Here’s my story of what happened that day…

Would you like to speak up for Minnesota’s animals? This is your chance to let your state legislators know that animal issues matter to you and that you’d like them to support animal protection legislation.

At Humane Lobby Day you will learn about animal legislation and issues currently before the legislature, and then head out to meet with your representatives. No experience required! There will be a briefing on tips for lobbying and an overview of pending animal legislation which will prepare you to meet your elected officials. Join us for this fun and inspiring event!

Humane Lobby Day 2012 at the Minnesota Capitol was a great event, and some attendees shared a bit about their experience at Humane Lobby Day last year:

“I foster dogs through Secondhand Hounds and have two adorable dogs of my own (Peanut and Bacon!) that I adopted from rescue organizations, so the issues that Humane Lobby Day represents are important to me in a very personal way. It’s vital that our government hears from voters about the issues that they are passionate about. An event like Humane Lobby Day allows us to connect with others that care about the same issues and ensure that our voices are heard as one. Talking with my senator and representative was an amazing experience and I can’t wait for next year!” –Kim M.

“Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection grounded me in the legislative issues, but also gave me the courage to throw out the script and tell my own story and the stories of other MVAP members. I told my elected officials I devoutly believed that our shared value of compassion for the vulnerable might lead us to a new way of looking at animal welfare issues. I felt we could discover a patch of common ground, though we were currently at opposite ends of the political spectrum. I told them I was going to keep coming back, and bringing my neighbors—their constituents—with me.” -Pat B.
