About MVAP

Mission

Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection’s mission is to end animal cruelty and unnecessary animal suffering caused by humans in Minnesota. Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection (MVAP) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization incorporated as a 501(c)(4) that works politically at the state level to protect Minnesota’s animals by promoting humane legislators and humane legislation in Minnesota.

What we do

Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection achieves its mission by lobbying elected officials, calling supporters to action on important issues, tracking and publicizing the voting records of incumbents and the positions of candidates on animal protection issues, and endorsing favorable candidates and mobilizing voters to give grassroots support to them. MVAP also has a sister organization, Minnesota Animal Protection, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, and which provides humane education in schools and conducts research to improve animal welfare policy in Minnesota.

How we do it

Lobbying- MVAP works to advance MVAP’s own initiatives at the local and state level. MVAP also works in cooperation with animal-friendly individuals and organizations to support pending animal protection legislation they are pursuing. Read more.

Mobilization of supporters- MVAP works around the year to aggressively build its statewide membership base. It is crucial to have MVAP members from all legislative districts around MN so pressure can be applied to all Minnesota Senators and Representatives, especially those representing Greater Minnesota. Please join today. Read more.

Supporting humane candidates- MVAP focuses efforts in elections and jurisdictions where past or future animal protection legislation has been or likely will be introduced. MVAP offers grassroots support to animal-friendly candidates for public office. We mobilize volunteers to help directly in campaigns and encourage our supporters to vote for animal-friendly candidates on election day. Read more.

Who we are

MVAP is comprised of young, old, Democrat, Republican, Green, Libertarian, Twin Cities dwellers, Greater Minnesota dwellers, people who know a little about animal protection, and people who know a lot. MVAP is simply the coordinated network of Minnesotans who believe animals should be treated humanely. For far too long the law has not kept pace with the changing attitudes of our time. MVAP members believe the time has come for Minnesota’s laws and politicians to represent Minnesotans who wish to see animals protected from unnecessary harm and suffering caused by humans.

What you can expect from MVAP

MVAP has a long-term vision of creating a powerful voting bloc for animals in Minnesota. You can expect from MVAP a steady and sustained growth as the capacity is built to more effectively advocate for animals in the political realm. You can expect a courteous, professional, and prompt responsiveness from the Board and MVAP volunteers who advocate for animals and interact with politicians, state agencies, candidates, the public, and most importantly, you, our treasured members.
