Land O’Lakes Reaches Settlement Agreement in Egg Price-Fixing Case

The Minnesota-based company Land O’Lakes has agreed to pay a $25 million settlement in a lawsuit against the egg industry, which claims that companies conspired to fix egg prices nationwide.

The case was brought in September 2008 by restaurants and processors who allege that eggprices soared between 2004 and 2008 because industry officials required that the supply be reduced. The egg industry maintains that the supply reduction was an effort to improve animal welfare by decreasing the number of hens at laying farms. Land O’Lakes will also submit internal documents to aid in the progression of the case.

In April, another Minnesota company, Sparboe Farms, was dropped from the case for agreeing to turn over documents.
