Elections & Politicians
Key to passing animal protection laws in Minnesota is holding politicians accountable for their votes on animal issues and electing humane candidates to office. Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection will continue to be actively engaged in selected elections that will impact future animal protection legislation.
Prior to the City of Minneapolis elections on November 3, 2009, MVAP distributed questionnaires to all candidates for City Council. Based upon candidate responses, MVAP published an endorsed candidate list as shown below. As our capacity grows, MVAP intends to publish and distribute Humane Scorecards, which will record legislators’ votes on animal issues.
Taking political action for animals is easy. With the simple act of voting for our endorsed, humane candidates, you can exert tremendous influence over the fate of future animal protection legislation. By donating even a modest amount to MVAP you can help make our proposed Humane Scorecard become a reality.

Elections
In key elections, MVAP will distribute candidate questionnaires, tally incumbents’ voting records on animal issues, conduct selected candidate interviews, endorse humane candidates, and encourage volunteers and voters to give grassroots support to endorsed humane candidates.

Election Results
Because the City of Minneapolis is using Instant Runoff Voting this year, official election results will not be immediately available. The hand-count process is about to begin. Ballots for each precinct will be counted by Ward, in an order based on a random drawing conducted in October. The order is as follows: Ward 13, Ward 12, Ward 2, Ward 11, Ward 6, Ward 7, Ward 5, Ward 10, Ward 4, Ward 3, Ward 1, Ward 8, Ward 9.
Official City Council race results will become available when each Ward’s counting is completed. Winners in individual races will be known as the count proceeds in the coming weeks, and the hand-count is tentatively expected to be complete by Dec. 21.
